Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel is stepping into the director's chair for the first time with the thrilling revenge story "Monkey Man," set to hit theaters on April 5 under the Universal Pictures banner. Produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, the film dropped its exciting first trailer on Friday morning.

In this action-packed tale, Patel takes on the role of Kid, a young man who leads a humble existence in an underground fight club. Night after night, he endures brutal beatings from more popular fighters, all while donning a gorilla mask, just to earn some cash. The movie draws inspiration from the Hindu deity Hanuman, adding a mythological touch to the narrative.

The logline teases an explosive journey for Kid, as years of pent-up anger push him to find a way into the inner circle of the city's sinister elite. With his hauntingly scarred hands and a childhood trauma that refuses to be silenced, he embarks on a relentless campaign of revenge, determined to settle the score with those who have taken everything from him.

The preview offers a glimpse into the intense and action-packed world of "Monkey Man," reminiscent of the thrilling scenes found in a "John Wick" movie. Patel's character embarks on a relentless journey of vengeance, leaving a trail of bloodshed as he takes down his enemies with ruthless precision. In a particularly brutal moment, he gruesomely impales a man's neck while gripping a knife between his teeth.

"Monkey Man" is a film directed by Patel, who also crafted the original story and screenplay alongside Paul Angunawela and John Collee. Initially intended for Netflix, the movie has now found its way to theaters through Monkeypaw's partnership with Universal.

The talented cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande, who bring their skills to breathe life into the characters.

Behind the scenes, a team of producers, including Patel, Peele, Jomon Thomas, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal, work tirelessly to bring this thrilling project to fruition. The film is a collaboration between Bron Studios, Thunder Road Films, Monkeypaw Productions, Minor Realm/S'Ya Concept Productions, WME Independent, and Creative Wealth Media, with Universal Pictures proudly presenting the final product.
